Background Information
The TxDOT West Lucas Road construction project is a roadway expansion project consisting of widening the existing two-lane undivided road to a four-lane divided roadway for a distance of approximately 0.8 miles. This 0.8 mile section of roadway will stretch from the Lucas Fire Station (Country Club Road) to the Bait Shop Intersection (FM 137 / FM 3286).
The City estimated that approximately 70 percent of the vehicles traveling on West Lucas Road originate from outside the City of Lucas. The purpose of the proposed project is to improve safety and mobility to accommodate for future traffic volumes. It would include two travel lanes in each direction divided by a grassy median to separate the eastbound and westbound lanes. Intersection improvements with turn lanes are proposed at cross streets. The proposed right-of-way width would vary from 125 to 180 feet. Subject to final design considerations, this right-of-way expansion will require approximately 7.6 acres of additional right-of-way not previously held by TxDOT and potentially displace four residences and one non-residential structure.
Planning for this project is still underway. More updates will be provided on this page as the project moves forward.
