IMPORTANT ELECTION INFORMATION
We have a busy election season, and the City of Lucas wants to ensure that its citizens are informed and updated on important election information.
To be eligible to run for a position on City Council, a citizen must meet the following criteria:
- Resident of the City for twelve (12) continuous months
- Qualified voter of the city
- Have never been convicted or not currently charged with a felony or crime involving moral turpitude
- 18 years of age
- Not delinquent on ad valorem taxes due to the City
Candidate packets available in City Secretary’s office and electronic submittals will not be accepted. More election information can be found on the City’s website at www.lucastexas.us/elections. General Election
We have three open seats for our upcoming General Election on May 4, 2024 consisting of the Mayor, Seat 3, and Seat 4 all with a three-year term from May 2024 – 2027. Applications must be filed with the City Secretary by Friday, February 16, 2024 at 5pm.
Special Election
The City Secretary has received applications from two members of the city council (Seat 2 and Seat 6) to run for the position of Mayor. They will continue to serve in their current seats on the city council until the results of the May 4, 2024 election results are canvassed at which time, they will no longer serve in that capacity. This situation creates an additional special election for the two unexpired terms:
Seat 2 Fill the unexpired term from May 2024 – 2026
Seat 6 Fill the unexpired term from May 2024 – 2025
Applications must be filed with the City Secretary by Monday, March 4, 2024 at 5pm.
Proposition A will also be on the special election ballot to reauthorize and dedicate one half of one percent (.50%) of sales and use tax to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair for municipal streets. The City is required to reauthorize this dedication of sales and use tax to street maintenance and repair every four years.
