The rural nature of Lucas which makes it so welcoming to families, also comes with some additional things to be aware of, namely snakes and spiders, that you may encounter in your home or on your property. It does help to be knowledgeable about some of the animals we may share our homes and properties with.

Snakebite |
- Do not touch and slowly retreat. Give the animal a chance to escape.
- If venomous or in your house, contact Collin County Animal services at 972-547-7292 or call 911.
- Snakes can sometimes be relocated without being killed.

- Separate yourself and the victim from the snake.
- Call 911 immediately.
- Stay calm and inactive.
- If safe to do so, take a picture of the snake.
- Do not cut open bite wound to bleed or suck out venom.
- Remove rings, bracelets or other constricting items on the bitten extremity.
- Mark redness and/or swelling with a black permanent marker.
- Immobilize the bitten extremity. DO NOT ELEVATE the limb above the level of the heart.
