Water Safety
According to recent statistics:
- An average of 3,500 to 4,000 people drown per year in the United States. That is an average of 10 fatal drownings per day
- Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-4
- 23% of child drownings happen during a family gathering near a pool
- Children younger than one-year-old are more likely to drown at home
The good news is the majority of these tragedies can be prevented. To help raise awareness of water safety in Lucas, Lucas Fire-Rescue has put together a Water Safe Training program. This three hour training will cover water safety for pools, lakes, homes and storms. In addition, participants will receive a water watcher lanyard to enhance pool safety. There is NO CHARGE for this training.
While the training does discuss CPR, CPR training is not included. A CPR class will be held immediately following the Water Safe Training for those who are interested in CPR certification. If you are not CPR certified and wish to be, please click on Community CPR in the menu on the left to sign up for one of our upcoming FREE classes.
We currently do not have any WaterSafe classes scheduled. We plan to resume classes in the spring of 2025. If you have a special need or have any questions, please reach out to [email protected] or call 972-727-1242.
